Now that we have burned a hole in gay marriage vs. traditional marriage, let me give you a real life scenario my family is going through, and has been for three weeks now.
My husband is on the verge of losing our business property due to an error that Homeland Defense has made. I have heard of such stories, but never knew I would find myself in the middle of one such case.
We were preparing for the largest festival in our area, which brings lots of business to our community. My husband owns and operates a restaurant and has for many years. Among all else, it was time to renew his sales tax permit, which has to be done every three years. We went to Oklahoma City, where at that time they wouldn’t release his sales tax permit because he had been red-flagged by the Dept. of Homeland Defense/Security!! Okay, so I kind of jokingly laughed it off and we were sent on our way to DHS so we could find out what was going on and to clear the issue. We were told that it was human error and for some reason, when he renewed his permanent resident card two years prior, they messed up his name when entering it into the computer system, even though it was correct on his Immigration card! We explained to them that our business was shut down and that we could lose our home and our business if we were unable to clear it soon: they stated that this type of thing happens and we would just be the ones to suffer this time! All I remember saying was…”excuse me!? You’ve got to be kidding! This is our lives and our family you’re talking about!”
We were told we could make an appointment online and maybe someone could help us. We contacted our congressman’s office, who could petition for us but would take a month or more to fix my husband’s I.D.
Since we were, and still are closed, we will be facing foreclosure within a couple of months because we owed two months mortgage, which we would of been able to pay if my husband’s name wouldn’t of been messed up in the system. We have also not been able to pay the tax payment arrangement we were on because funds aren’t available to us. We will now have to pay tons of penalties, fees, reinstatement charges and so on to the state of Oklahoma before they will release his permit. His name, as of 2 days ago, has been cleared but we are unable to put together the funds the state wants! They acknowledge that it was due to errors that Homeland Security made, but are unwilling to waiver………..
We are on the edge of losing everything and are at our wit’s end. We have four children at home, no steady income, and not only are going to lose our business property but maybe out home as well, seeing as the same bank holds the notes on both our properties……
So, after being in this country 27 years, my husband is going to lose everything …..
